CDR Fiebrandt is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, following 22 years of active duty, primarily in the marine technical and safety programs, with field tours in Hampton Roads, VA and Mobile, AL, staff tours in New Orleans and Washington DC, as well as a 2-year secondment as a Lecturer at the World Maritime University, in Malmo Sweden. Following graduation from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1975, Ensign Fiebrandt served two years on the USCGC DEPENDABLE, homeported in Panama City, FL, as a Deck Watch Officer with an abundance of collateral duties. He holds a BS degree in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a MS in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from MIT.
Following retirement, CDR Fiebrandt spent five years with Sargeant Marine, a small, locally owned asphalt tanker company in South Florida, as a technical superintendent, and environmental response and safety manager. Following a short stint at Cunard/Seabourn Cruise Line, he moved over to Norwegian Cruise Line as the Director, Environmental Operations. In this position, he oversaw all aspects of environmental compliance issues for Norwegian’s fleet of twelve ships (give or take over the 12 years). Norwegian operated under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and, at the time, was also accredited to the internationally recognized ISO 14001standard for Environmental Management Systems. He was a Lead Auditor for annual safety and environmental compliance audits of each of Norwegian’s ships and counted over 60 working cruises over the 12 years. He is a past Chairman of CLIA’s Committee on Marine Environmental Matters. Norwegian Cruise Line was the 2010 recipient of the USCG’s Gold Benkert Award for Environmental Excellence.
He presently resides in Orlando with his wife of 41 years, Joanie. They have three children and 4 grandchildren. One daughter is a US Army Major in the Army Veterinary Corp and a son who is a US Navy Lieutenant in the Navy’s Engineering Duty Officer program.
